A Nixon Déjà vu?

posted by John Nichol
The Obama administration really needs to get over itself.

First, the president and his aides go to war with Fox News because the network maintains a generally anti-Obama slant.

Then, an anonymous administration aide attacks bloggers for failing to maintain a sufficiently pro-Obama slant.

These are not disconnected developments.

An administration that won the White House with an almost always on-message campaign and generally friendly coverage from old and new media is now frustrated by its inability to control the debate and get the coverage it wants.

Nor is it a surprising revelation from a woman who recently talked at length about her admiration for the political philosophies of Mao Tse Tung.

And liberals wonder why Fox News has twice the prime time viewership of CNN and MSNBC combined …

„And liberals wonder why Fox News has twice the prime time viewership of CNN and MSNBC combined …“

I don´t wonder. It´s easy to understand: there are so many idiots in the USA nowadays. Or to quote the voice of reason again:

„If you think Obama wants to take away your religion – then you are an idiot. If you think he wants to take away your religion and your gun – then you are an armed idiot. If you think Obama wants to take you religion and your gun an give it to an gay mexican day laborer – then you are Bill O´Reilly.“

What part of the 1st Amendment do you not understand?
Have a look in the history the federalist papers countered that their opponents were „frog-eating, man-eating, blood drinking cannibals.
Partisan journalists of the past and present don’t just excite their audiences, they also bring hammers and tongs to their scrutiny of government officials of opposing viewpoints. Given the vast powers exercised by governments to destroy lives, wage war and crush liberty, the least we can do is hope that the watchdogs dogging their steps have every incentive to uncover misconduct and scandal something a bit more invigorating than a priest-like devotion to the profession. Everybody knew that Keith Olbermann would tell us about any misstep by the Bush administration because he despised President Bush; we can be equally assured that Glenn Beck will eagerly reveal President Obama’s screw-ups for the same reason.
So give us more of that partisan journalism -from every perspective-. It’s effective, it’s exciting, and it’s a hell of a lot more American than the great chairman Anne Dunn cries.
The White House and Anne Dunn will control the Media?

Which part of my comment you haven´t read? It´s not about the first amendment but about stupidity. But if you like it this way:

the first amendment guarantees FOX to air any nonsense the owners of the shop want to be presented to the american under class. And I have every right NOT to listen to it or to call it perfect bullshit. So far so good.

The difference between Olberman and Beck is the difference between journalism and propaganda. Olberman critized Bush because of what he DID: starting two wars based on little knowledge and fat lies, breaking the law and the constitution (guantanamo, wiretaps, torture, attorneys, plamegate / scooter libby), failing to protect America (9/11, Katrina), ignoring the economic problems, in short: ruining the country. Olberman is clearly partisan but he only denounces the Bush-Administration for its performance not for the beliefs of its leaders. But if the president fails in every aspect one should have the right to question the program.

Beck / FOX critizes Obama fo what he – supposedly – IS: unamerican, no citizen, socialist, muslim, traitor and so on. It´s not about what OBAMA does (or does not) or what his staff does but about what they – and Beck knows it all! – INTEND to do and what they WILL do in an undisclosed future. And because his rants are so absurd we have every right to laugh directly in his face. Again listen to the voice of reason:
