Iraq Embassy in Syria is helping Insurgents

The United States has determined that the Iraqi embassy in Syria serves to facilitate the flow of insurgents to fight the coalition in Iraq.

U.S. officials said the Iraqi embassy in Damascus has refused to submit to the authority of the interim government in Baghdad. They said the embassy hasprovided passports at sharply reduced costs to Islamic volunteers who have joined the Sunni insurgency movement.

Das ist ja cool! Würde es sich hier nicht um Araber handeln, wäre “Chuzpe” sicherlich das richtige Wort. Da platzt die Erde, aber der Mond kreist der Schwerkraft zum Trotz einfach unbeirrt weiter drum rum, als ob nix gewesen wäre. Wenn es nicht so ernst wäre, müßte man drüber lachen.

Man stelle sich das mal vor: Die deutsche Botschaft in - sagen wir - Argentinien erkennt die Kapitulation vom 8. Mai 1945 nicht an und verteilt weiter Pässe mit Hakenkreuz, läßt die Adolfbilder im Wartezimmer hängen, und versorgt die restlichen U-Boote im Südatlantik mit Koffern voller Reichsmark.

Die Geschichte hätte man sich kaum verrückter ausdenken können. Was für eine surreale Welt…
